Juan Manuel é, sobretudo um amigo. Mas é também um velho - ativista cultural, como se diz hoje. Ele levou a ideia de cine itinerante a um outro nível. Seu grupo, o Huayra, "invadia" cidades com inúmeras atividades e intervenções, divertindo e chacoalhando as ideias da comunidade. Ele mesmo inventou um aparelhinho que permitia interferir nas tevês, e assim entravam diretamente nos lares dos moradores. Um trabalho incrível!

O Juan Manuel está passando por uma situação muito difícil. Desesperadora mesmo, ainda mais para quem a imagem em movimento é a principal motivação de toda a vida.

Uma situação injusta, porque ele não tem acesso ao tratamento e o país em que vive é completamente incapaz de fornecê-lo a quem, nos termos de lá, não tenha muito, muito dinheiro.

E é uma situação absurdo, porque o Juan Manuel tem duas cataratas, severas mas completamente tratáveis.

Juan Manuel is, above all, my friend. But he is also an important cultural activist – as they say now a days. He took the idea of traveling cinema to a completely new level. His group, Huayra, “invaded” small cities with numerous and different activities, performances, interventions, amusing, informing, and changing these communities. Juan invented a simple and small gadget that permitted to interfere from the streets in the television sets, so they took their activities to people`s homes. An inventive and remarkable work!

Juan Manuel is living a very difficult situation. Desperate even, since all his life has been dedicated to moving images. An unfair situation, because he has no access to treatment: his own country is incapable of giving it to anybody who has not a really awful lot of money, in local terms.

And it is an absurd situation, since the two cataracts tha Juan Manuel has, although severe, have a secure treatment and cure!
